The Broken Hero is in development

The newest GeemuStudios project has a name: The Broken Hero (in Portuguese, O Retorno da Heroína Quebrada). It’s a pixel art action RPG with monster hordes, dungeons that change on every run and plenty of loot, and it’s in development for Windows and Android.

She saved the world. Then she spent it all on face cream.

Four Legendary Heroes defeated the Demon King of Kalmagor, received a fortune and vanished. Our heroine was one of them. Retired to a cabin in the mountains, she spent decades (and ten million Zennies) on runic beauty creams.

Now her body has gone rusty, her spells are forgotten, the roof is falling in and the bills keep coming. Broke, and too embarrassed to say who she really is, she signs up at the Adventurers’ Guild under a fake name, as a Rank F rookie, and starts all over again, delving into the Ancient Tombs, dungeons that change shape every time someone enters and hold relics of unpredictable power.

Where the game is right now

The prologue is playable from start to finish: wake up in the ruined cabin, register at the Guild, clear the infestation in the sewers of Eldoria, survive the horde, face the Tomb Guardian and, at last, pay for the new roof.

The game also already has:

• tombs generated on every run, plus a more dangerous second floor;
• the Nest, a tomb hidden under the cabin;
• Muscle Memory, which gives the heroine back, for a few moments, the power of a legend;
• spells that slowly come back to her and relics that fuse with her body forever;
• the town of Eldoria, with townsfolk, quests, a forge and a market;
• achievements, a compendium, three save slots and an English translation.

Some of the monster and scenery art is still placeholder, and the balance is still being tuned.
